Adjusting PH Levels in Your Hot Tub

Why do I need to adjust the pH in my hot tub?

Adjusting PH levels is an important part of hot tub maintenance because the effectiveness of your sanitiser can be reduced by up to 70% if your pH levels are not correct. Simply put this means you will be using much more Chlorine / Bromine or Active Oxygen than you need to, and you run the risk of unusable water. Don’t worry!  This Article will give you all the information you need to set the pH levels of your water correctly.

Thankfully, adjusting PH Levels is actually quite simple. All you need to do is follow the guide below and you will have perfectly balanced spa water.

You will need Fi-Clor Spa pH increaser and Fi-Clor Spa PH reducer to improve your bathing experience. This will mean no itching or stinging eyes, no damage being caused to heaters, headrests and covers, and will also mean that your Chlorine / Bromine or Active Oxygen can function correctly.

This is a very simple process..

All hot tubs have a recommended pH rate of between 7.2 and 7.6, the pH of your eyes is around 7.4

Simply dip one of your Test Strips into the water, take it out and compare to the colour chart on the back of the Test Strips bottle.  Do this within 15 seconds as the colour will change.

If the pH level is too low the test strip will be a lighter colour, if it is too high it will be a darker colour. It even says “OK” on the bottle for the correct colour you are aiming for, which just so happens to be between 7.2 and 7.6.  Couldn’t be easier!

If you really want to make this as simple as possible and want to ensure your pH levels are correct, test with a test strip every day until the “OK” colour matches, this way you will ensure the Hot Tub has the ideal pH level and will always be ready to be used.

What if my pH level is too low?

If your pH level shows too low you will need to add Fi-Clor Spa pH Increaser.

To make this process very simple just add a tablespoon per day until the levels have increased to the 7.2 to 7.6 zone that you are trying to achieve. There really is no need to rush this and generally the levels will have settled after 3 to 5 days.

What if my pH level is too high?

If your pH level is too high you will need to add Fi-Clor Spa pH Reducer and follow exactly the same procedure as above until the levels are correct.

The biggest tip we can give you for trouble-free pH levels is really as simple as starting as soon as your Hot Tub has been filled, and testing the water with a test strip every day until correct. Make sure that you don’t run out of Fi-Clor Spa PH Increaser / Reducer and Test Strips. This will help you to ensure that you always have the correct pH levels in your spa. Easy!
