Liner Pools

The majority of outdoor and indoor pools have liners and, with the superb quality of liners currently available, it can be difficult to distinguish a liner pool from a much more expensive tiled pool.

When choosing a liner, one of the key decisions to make is whether you require a custom shaped liner or a standard shaped liner. Standard liners come in two different thicknesses: 20 thou and 30 thou (i.e. 20 thousandths or 30 thousandths of an inch thick), whereas a tailor made onsite liner, such as an “Infinity” liner, is much thicker, normally 1mm to 1.5 mm thick.

An Infinity liner tends to be used for commercial pools, hydrotherapy pools and refurbishments where there are impaired surfaces which would benefit from a thicker liner. However, they are becoming increasingly popular for normal leisure pools as well.

A liner swimming pool is equally appropriate for outdoor and indoor pools and there are a large number of different designs to choose from. A liner pool also has a number of advantages over a tiled pool:

• A liner is typically between 25% and 40% cheaper than an equivalent tiled pool
• A liner takes significantly less time to install or change than a tiled base and walls
